What It Takes To Cook

Welcome to Mrs. Bell's sweet treats and more! I'm Mrs. Bell! Today is Monday, and I like to give what I call "Monday Moments."

I just wanted to take some time to just talk with you a few minutes. I love to cook. I am a person that enjoys being around other people and sharing and find the shortcuts, you know, find the simpler ways to do things, even if it's cake mix.

I've been cooking for many years. Those of you who know me know it's been a lot of years. I have not always been successful, but I want to encourage those of you who are excellent cooks and those of you who are just starting on your journey, and even some who don't even like to cook. I want to just remind you that cooking takes a decision. It doesn't mean that you have to be perfect. You don't start perfect. I certainly didn't. I don't know anybody that came out the womb cooking and cooking right. But there's always going to be someone that cooks better or has a better spin on your recipe.

So it just takes a decision that you want to cook. The next thing is a willingness. I was willing to learn. And I had many adventures in the learning.

And cooking takes imagination. Sometimes when I first learned to cook, I didn't have the courage of my own so I go to recipes or what you have already. You have it in your own workplace. Okay, so for instance, you have to make a decision. You had to make a decision to get a job. It might have been something you didn't know. Or you thought you knew how to do something and they do it different over here. But it took a decision. You were willing to do that. You had a willingness to learn.

You also had imagination because you had ideas about a better way that you or the company can do something or you can find a short cut.

And then it takes courage to do what it is that you know you can do and to get back up. And to not always have all the answers and all the ingredients, but work with what you have and look at what you can come up with.

I encourage you. Cooking is not just the work of somebody that is brilliant. Cooking takes all of us. Each of us has something that the other doesn't have. I might not make the best, but I'll make a pretty darn good one.

I want to encourage you. Together we can do this. I cook because I enjoy it. And then I get to experiment. And then I get to do something that I've never done. And then I'm amazed. It took a decision for me to want to. It took a willingness for me to be willing to do. It took my imagination. It took courage. This is a life journey, and cooking is part of it. But you know what? It kind of spills over into other parts of our lives too. You have a good one. I hope to talk soon.
